I saw Kneecap today in one of the best multiplexes in the UK. Interestingly, the entire audience (all 10) were in their 60s and 70s, and the engagement was total and no one left before the lights came up. I spoke to one group of about 5 people and they all agreed how powerful this film is. I lived and traveled in Northern Ireland and Ireland (as it was) in the early 1980s, so I really appreciated the quality of the script. The acting was exceptional, and the dark humor was my style. I'm not a big hip-hop fan and you certainly don't have to be to appreciate this film, but I've always had a high regard for Eminem and Die Antwoord, and it's clear to me that the latter had a particular influence on the sound and style of Kneecap as a band. I'll buy it on Blu-ray when the time comes, but I think I'll be the only one in the house who "gets it". I hope my kids understand at least some of the cultural references and appreciate the incredible soundtrack. If you get the chance, definitely see this film because it shows how a work of art can be created with a very limited budget and authentic actors. Based on a true story.
